Overview
On June 26, 1975, during a period of high tensions on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota, two FBI agents were killed in a shootout with a group of Indians. Although several men were charged with killing the agents, only one, Leonard Peltier, was found guilty. This film describes the events surrounding the shootout and suggests that Peltier was unjustly convicted.

'Incident at Oglala'.
From the very beginning, Pelter's case has been dogged with controversy. Were the charged trumped up? Was the evidence falsified? Were witnesses pressured.
Michael Apted's documentary examines the 1975 slaying of two FBI agents in Oglala, SD, which resulted in the arrest and conviction of Native American activist Leonard Peltier for the murders. Making a case for a retrial, Apted chronicles the tensions extant between the government and the Oglala people since their occupation of Wounded Knee in 1973 and examines the questionable circumstances surrounding the investigation and subsequent trial of Peltier. The film is a companion to Apted's own Thunderheart, which offers a fictionalized account of the same case..

Incident At Oglala: The Leonard Peltier Story.
Leonard Peltier is locked inside Leavenworth Prison, and there is every reason to suspect he does not belong there - that he did not commit the murders for which he has been jailed, and that he was framed because he had the misfortune to be a highly visible American Indian leader at a time when the federal government was under great pressure to find and indict is the bottom line of "Incident at Oglala," a documentary about events that began with the demonstrations at Wounded Knee in 1973 and continue to this day. The movie was produced and narrated by Robert Redford, who has been an advocate of Peltier's innocence since the early 1980s, and was directed by Michael Apted, whose fiction film "Thunderheart" takes place in roughly the same area..
